Legends in NASCAR
By Jordan Turner
NASCAR has been around for many years. I believe this is the 60th anniversary of the sport. There have been many drivers that have come and gone throughout the years. All of them have been great drivers. They had to be great drivers to compete in a sport like this. The two drivers that everybody knows about are Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt. They both have seven cup championships. That is the record for championships. Petty has another record with the most wins. He has 200 wins in his career. There are a few other drivers that I believe have impacted the sport as much as these two legends have. Junior Johnson is one that comes to mind. He has had a great career as both a driver and an owner. He won 50 races as a driver until he retired in 1966. He then became a car owner and his drivers won 139 races and six cup championships. These three drivers were just picked into the inaugural hall of fame class for NASCAR. There have been many other drivers that have impacted the sport.
Lets move onto more recent drivers and ones that are still driving. Mark Martin has had a good career. He has never won a championship, but he has had many wins and is one of the most respected drivers today. Jeff Gordon appeared in NASCAR in the 1990s. He has made a huge impact ever since. He has four cup championships and 81 wins. He has made a huge impact on the sport today. Jimmie Johnson has done really well since coming into the sport. He has won the last three cup championships and is looking for his fourth in a row this year. He is one driver that I believe will be up there with the Petty's and Earnhardt. There are so many other drivers that have impacted this sport in a huge way. These are just a few that I believe fans will remember forever.
