Final Thoughts On NASCAR's 2007 Season Finale

Final Thoughts On NASCAR's 2007 Season Finale
By Night Phoenix

So now that drivers 5th and higher in the point standings have been mathematically eliminated, the remaining 4 as of Phoenix are:

Kyle Busch in 4th, Clint Bowyer in 3rd, Jeff Gordon in 2nd and Jimmie Johnson in 1st place.

A lot of focus has been put on Johnson and Gordon, with people wondering if Jeff will be
able to catch up with only 1 race left. I don't know if he will or not, and am wondering more
if this last race for top spot of the year will be raced clean between the 2. Despite Gordon
going over to Victory Lane and conceding the championship to Johnson, I really have to
say that I don't think he meant it wholeheartedly. I know he wants it just as bad, if not
more than Jimmie. Whatever the truth is, I think we're in for an awesome grand finale
this weekend.

And seemingly more interesting is the contention for 3rd and 4th place going on
between Clint Bowyer and Kyle Busch. Clint has held steady in 3rd place throughout
the Chase, but now someone else wants it. As he previously stated, Kyle is not looking
to win the championship, but to give Mr. H a 1-2-3 HMS finish at Homestead. What a
way for him to make an exit from HMS. If we don't see alot of action from the 24 and 48
battling each other, you can almost bank on Kyle Busch giving it his all. And we all know
that Kyle has no problem doing it his way. I predict a lead foot, and tunnel vision from
dear Kyle. And I wouldn't have any other way.

Thanks for a great, crazy season boys. I look forward to 2008.

Night Phoenix is a walking contradiction. A tree hugging, dirt worshipping, earth loving, human and animal rights activist, who loves NASCAR, tattooing, art, rioting and iced tea.

Keeping Current Of N A S C A R Action

Keeping Current Of N A S C A R Action by James Brown

One of the best ways that a NASCAR fan can stay in touch with the action of NASCAR racing is by attending the races, sitting in the stands and spending a marvelous race day with wonderful people and watching the action for themselves in the best seats that anyone could buy. If a road trip is not feasible on race day, then a true NASCAR fan might resort to hearing the latest news from friends who did have the chance to attend the race.

Those friends are certainly going to be revved up by all they have seen by that time and will be willing to provide a wealth of information to their friends and relatives about the race, the drivers, and the merchandise that they purchased that was offered at such great prices. They might even share interesting tidbits about how fans reacted when certain lane changes occurred during the race, and whether a driver was rubbing a competitor in what they might have perceived as the right way but the other driver had a totally different viewpoint on the matter after the race.

Keeping current on the changes that occur in NASCAR racing is vital because the latest news might alert the NASCAR fan that there is a new point leader in the Winston Cup Championship challenge. There might be many accidents that occur during the race, and a true NASCAR fan is going to want to know all about them. Some of those accidents might be the fault of their favorite driver and the NASCAR fan will want to keep pace with the repercussions that follow, especially if that means that the driver will no longer be driving for their favorite racing team.

Fans try their best to keep current on all of the drivers that make their living driving on the asphalt ovals that are home to many NASCAR race teams. There are many new additions to racetracks and fans want to see where the best seats are located and which turn of the racetrack would afford them the best visibility. There are many websites that feature charts of the racetracks associated with NASCAR racing and fans are sure to get their finest views of the action if they know how the track layout is and where their driver will be located on pit row on race day.

Many NASCAR fans will tape the various interviews that NASCAR driver's provide the week before the race. Then they will tape the interviews that are provided after the race, where the driver's are asked to comment on a varied amount of topics. A NASCAR fan can have a front row seat to some interesting comments and gain an upper hand on information that would not have been divulged for weeks. NASCAR driver's are trained how to respond to certain questions and make mistakes that prove they are human.

Many changes occur in NASCAR racing and most NASCAR fans like to keep a bird's eye view open in this competitive sport. They know that NASCAR and the owner's of the racing teams are concerned about how fans view their successes and failures and they make sure that all information that is divulged is completely correct at all times. Fans do enjoy the stumbles that occur by owners and racing team members throughout the year. They will definitely be tracking the news about NASCAR because they truly enjoy the sport of it.

The NASCAR Foundation

The NASCAR Foundation
By Christopher DiCicco

A good organization supports charity and NASCAR does just that through it's NASCAR foundation. The NASCAR foundation has a program where for a $30 donation you can join in on the NASCAR track walk. The Home Depot, one of the nation's largest retail home improvement centers, is a major sponsor of the promotions and holds charitable events with proceeds going to the Foundation. But who does the Foundation support and what kinds of events do they hold to raise funds?

One thing they do is sponsor auctions where the proceeds go to one of the foundations supported by the NASCAR foundation. For example, on September 17, 2007, they announced bidding on Jeff Gordon full-sized and autographed fiberglass auto body. The proceeds from this auction go to the Jeff Gordon Foundation which supports pediatric medical care of children with serious and life-threatening disease.

The NASCAR foundation holds the Blood and Marrow Drives at different tracks each year. The donations help out the Jimmie Johnson Foundation and the Hendrick Marrow Program. Other charities of the NASCAR Foundation are:

The Dale Earnhardt Foundation

This is a foundation run by the wife of the racing great who died in a race car crash in 2001. Dale Earnhardt was concerned about education, children, and wildlife and his commitment lives on through this foundation.

The Kyle Petty Charity Ride

Kyle Petty is the son of the King of NASCAR Richard Petty and he sponsors a motorcycle ride across the USA for the Victory Junction Gang Camp as well as other children's charities.

Victory Junction Gang Camp

This is an organization with the mission of helping to enrich the lives of children with serious illnesses by providing them a camping experience in a medically-safe environment. It was founded by Kyle Petty and his wife Pattie in June 2004. The couple also donated the land that the camp stands on today. The camp is interesting because it was built with a racing theme and all the look of a NASCAR race track. The camp takes cash donations and there are volunteer opportunities. It is also gives a quilt and a teddy bear to each child who stays there so they are always looking for donations of these two items to replenish their supply.

NASCAR Auto Donation Program

There are many ways to donate to the NASCAR foundation. One way is through the NASCAR Auto Donation program. Here, you can donate a vehicle and then any of the proceeds that the NASCAR Auto Donation program gets from the proceeds in an auction are given to charity. All donations are fully tax deductible.

The NASCAR Day Telethon

This was a telethon held on May 18, 2007 across from Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Speed Channel, NASCAR, and Sirius radio broadcasted this telethon event through the end of the Craftsman Truck Series Race.

There are many other charitable organizations supported by the NASCAR Foundation but it is obvious that NASCAR cares about contributing to the community which is probably one of the reasons why this sport is becoming increasingly popular.

NASCAR Tracks - Atlanta Motor Speedway

NASCAR Tracks - Atlanta Motor Speedway
By Christopher DiCicco

The NASCAR Atlanta Motor Speedway is in Hampton, Georgia (a suburb of Atlanta) and has a 1.54-mile oval track with turns banking at 24 degrees. Because these banks and their smooth surface, car speeds have been known to reach 190 mph on occasion. However these sustained high-throttle speeds make it hard on engines at the NASCAR Atlanta Motor Speedway. You will see a variety of action here as cars will race closely side-by-side along with a lot of pushing and cutting off. All this action at the NASCAR Atlanta Motor Speedway is made even more exciting by the high speeds.

The Atlanta Speedway offers a variety of options to see the races from premier seating to facilities for camping. The raceway's premier seating is the Club One option. Fans purchasing this seating option sit in a location with a great view on top of the Winners Grandstand. It has 65 video screens along with a first-class bar and menu. Probably one of the most exciting features of Club One is the fans get a pre-race pit stop pass.

The Speedway can be rented for all sorts of group occasions too. They have custom packages for weddings, wedding receptions, theme parties, birthday parties, group meetings, and other special gatherings.

You can bring your recreational vehicle or pop up tent and camp at the Atlanta Motor Speedway too. Shower facilities are available.

The Speedway's website is excellent and has all the information you need. It even has a frequently-asked questions link where you can see the answers on subjects such as getting drivers' autographs to bringing your cooler inside the track.

If you ever wanted to get into racing marketing, NASCAR's Atlanta Motor Speedway gives you the opportunity through its internship program. This is an unpaid internship program but it gives you the experience needed to get into the career of NASCAR marketing by allowing you to gain working experience at the NASCAR Atlanta Motor Speedway. Plus, with this experience, one can be competitive in the market for the paid NASCAR marketing positions. The qualifications are that the person must be a college-level student (B.A. or B.S.) and a marketing communications major. You will help with the public relations, advertising, and event duties at the track.

The Atlanta Speedway is also the venue for numerous NASCAR driver schools where one can purchase a fantasy racing package and experience the thrill of being a NASCAR driver for a short time. Now these are not schools to train you to be a professional driver. There is no career path like that. These are schools for the amateurs who just want to do something different and experience the thrill of the drive. There are different levels and of course price ranges. It is patterned a somewhat after the Major League Baseball fantasy camps where you get to play games and train alongside Major League Baseball players.

Richard Petty, the King of NASCAR, runs the NASCAR driving experience school along with others who have their schools and use the Atlanta Motor Speedway track.

NASCAR Hall Of Fame

NASCAR Hall Of Fame
By Christopher DiCicco

The NASCAR Hall of Fame was designated to be built in Charlotte, North Carolina on March 6, 2006 and groundbreaking began in 2007. It is projected to be opened for visitors in 2010. The Hall of Fame will be a welcome asset for tourism in Charlotte plus create jobs for the locals. It will have an office building that will house the business operations of marketing the image and licensing. The Hall of Fame has also adopted the words "Racing was built here Racing belongs here" as its slogan.

Besides being a very modern building that captures the spirit of racing, the Hall of Fame has as its first mission to pick the first inductees. There are some unofficial Hall of Fame sites where people are taking polls and we'll take a look at some of the popular drivers getting voted for.

Lee Petty

Lee Petty had 54 victories and is the father of Richard Petty. He raced during the 1950s an 1960s when it really began to take off. His home state is also in North Carolina. He was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame, The Motorsports Hall of Fame of America, and elected to the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame.

Richard Petty

He is getting a lot of votes at unofficial Hall of Fame sites and it is to no surprise. Richard Petty has 200 wins and 7 championship titles. He and Dale Earnhardt are the only two drivers in NASCAR's history to have 7 championship titles. Richard Petty was dubbed the title of the "King of Racing." He is the son of Lee Petty who was also a championship driver.

Bobby Allison

Here is another well-known name is racing. He has 84 victories with 3 Daytona 500 championships.

Cale Yarborough

Cale Yarborough has 83 victories plus he's famous as being the only driver to win 3 straight championships. He is ranked 5th in the All-time winner's list. He has also been the winner of the Daytona 500 four times.

Bobby Isaac

Bobby Isaac had to leave a race in 1977 because of heat exhaustion. During the time they were treating him he had a heart attack and died. In his short life of 45 years, he would achieve 37 victories. He would also set 28 world land speed records at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah (outside of the competition). He would eventually be named as one of 50 of the all-time great drivers. He is also a 1979 inductee of the National Motorsports Press Association Hall of Fame.

There are other driver greats being considered including Buck Backer, Clay Earls, Tim Flock, and Junior Johnson.

Charlotte, North Carolina is a perfect location for the NASCAR Hall of Fame because there are over 50 teams of the Busch, Craftsman Truck, and Nextel Cup Series Championship competition all in close proximity to Charlotte. And Charlotte was the home of the first premier race in 1949. That's why they say racing started in Charlotte and should remain in Charlotte.

Nascar Merchandise

N A S C A R Merchandise

By James Brown

The sponsors of a NASCAR racing team want to give fans something to hold on to so they can remember the good time they had at the NASCAR track during NASCAR racing season. Some NASCAR fans select NASCAR merchandise that has the name of their favorite driver on the front and the other merchandise with the NASCAR emblem on it will go home with a fan who simply loves NASCAR and wants to wear the emblem to show people that they love a sport that is very competitive.

Some NASCAR fans want to own memorabilia that features the name of a certain racetrack. That NASCAR track might have been the place where two NASCAR fans fell in love and are back once again to see the race and relive old memories that are important to them. NASCAR racing is a family oriented sport and star crossed lovers will usually bring their children back with them one day. Each and every child is sure to want some type of NASCAR merchandise to take home to commemorate the memorable event called NASCAR racing.

There are people who want to collect any type of merchandise that bears the NASCAR logo. Some NASCAR collector's get their start in trading NASCAR memorabilia by taking home a cushioned seat from a memorable race. After they see the amount of interest that people in their hometown have about such a simple item, they might delve into the other possibilities of trading NASCAR collectibles and branch out to bobble head dolls and other racing memorabilia.

A fan might prefer to take home NASCAR merchandise that comes directly from their favorite driver. These fans get into collecting photographs of the racetracks where NASCAR races are run throughout the country. They might continue their photo collection by searching for photo opportunities that are provided by each driver. The collectibles of NASCAR are often more collectible if they bear the signature of the driver. NASCAR has merchandise for sales at the tracks that is autographed at some point by drivers and shrink wrapped.

NASCAR fans know that there will be a lot of choices to make when it comes time for them to select a piece of merchandise at the track. All of the authentic NASCAR collectibles will be ready for fans to take with them when they leave the track. Some merchandise is very special and cannot be endorsed by a driver until the end of the season because it is the merchandise that declares which driver is the winner of the Winston Cup point's series.

NASCAR fans might select miniatures of the Winston Cup trophy or a die cast car that bears the winner's name for a certain race. The automobiles for NASCAR are one of the best sellers at the racetrack and fans know that if these items sell out, they can still be obtained through mail order catalogs and vendors throughout the country who are licensed to sell NASCAR merchandise. At times, the NASCAR merchandise left over from last racing season has doubled in value but still sells for the original asking price at many retailers.
